So if I’m coming up with a food product that I desire to have a one year shelf life based on similar products on market. Does that mean I can’t start selling before I complete a full year of stability study?
If you have a one year shelf life, I assume that your product is shelf stable. In this case product quality would be the factor determining the shelf life of your product. Many companies cannot wait for a year to complete the shelf life study and will assign a conservative shelf life date and readjust the shelf life date as more data becomes available. If there are similar products that are processed in a similar manner and in similar packaging that are present in the market, then assigning a similar shelf life will pose minimal risk.
In present, I tested the 1 year back Coconut oil sample for Shelflife test..Is it possible to get the results for every 3 months once from 1 year back to now???? Any formula is working for these things?
Food is a complex mixture of compounds. Extrapolating shelf life data of food is risky. There are no calculations or formulations that will help with this. I hope this answers your question.
If I create a chocolate chip cookie in a commercial kitchen and sell them individually packaged to a retail store (candy shop, online retailer, etc.) do I need to have a shelf life test done or do I estimate based on similar products?
