Babies, however, should stick to nut butters and pastes, said Dr. Robert Boyle, a pediatric allergy researcher at Imperial College London who wasn’t involved in the current analysis.
“Whole nuts are not advised for babies or children up to the age of 3, due to the risk of choking,” Dr. Boyle added by email.
Richard O'Rourke says
Nut allergies are related to the practice of new mothers slathering their infants with baby oil, that is made from peanut oil. Previous generations were OK when baby oil was made from palm oil, Since palm oil grew more expensive for a period of years, manufacturers of baby oil chose to switch to the more inexpensive peanut oils to manufacture their baby oil. Think of all that dermal absorption the baby experiences from being slathered all over with baby oil. That is why the baby or infant will develop an adverse reaction to nuts later on in life. I am not sure if baby oil manufacturers have switched back to palm oil or not, I hope this helps young mothers to look at the lables of baby oil to determin if it was made from palm oil or peanut oil.
